About Me
An avid civil war buff, had ancesters in both north and south regiments.
have been researching ancesters for many years, have collected antiques and raised horses and ponies. Love animals and my 2 girls are the same, one has cats the other horses cats and dogs.
Have been visting Gettysburg for about 25 years, have also been to other battlefeilds.
My heart is breaking in what is now being pushed upon the inhabitants of this very beautiful and much sacred land, the blood soaked ground is screaming out in pain, I pray that the folks that fight now have the very same stamina that their forebears had, the war, it seems continues.
Why do you oppose a casino in Gettysburg?
I know what they bring as I live in NJ. They destroyed the area and the state is still broke, many of the NJ residents voted this down, I remember 2 times. It is a scourge on the land.
Also this is not the type of, so called, entertainment that is acceptable in this area that has been dedicated to those who gave their lives and last great measure in such intense and dreadful pain, is this how we thank THEM!!!!

Merry Christmas

Just wanted to take the space to wish everyone at NCG a very Blessed Christmas and the best New Year ever, and to take the time to thank Susan and her family for all of her work on behalf of GBMP and all the fallen heroes from all over that she has spent unending hours of her time upholding what we all know is the rightside of the current and future ideals for our community, whether we are citizens physically or of the heart of Gettysburg.

God Bless you all!, MERRY…

Lashinger moved to Florida?

It seems to me that both Mr Lashinger and Mr LeVan should have to live where they create, the Atlantic City casino area I would reccomend.

Anyone who states the fact that casinos enhance an area are sadly mistaken, what have they really done for New Jersey.

This country we live in is really morphing into something that I don't recognize anymore, and I have been alive for 65 years now.

PROGRESS now as they define it is an abomination.

Betty,

Thank you for viewing my website on the Battle of Gettysburg and for your kind words. I can't think of many worse things then putting a casino on this most sacred ground. Men fought and died on the fields in and around Gettysburg and their memory should not be scarred by this most unsavory, despicable plan to put a casino in this hallowed place.

We need to protect our history and learn from it, not dishonor it. My website was started to educate on the Battle of Gettysburg, and I want to create a source where people can go to find out everything one might want to know about the battle. But what is most important to me is to protect and honor these battlefields. I will always support preservation and education, and stand against commercialism and the disrespect of these great battlefields. This website is only 4 months old and will grow steadily and my next two websites will be on Antietam and Shiloh.

Keep up the good fight and together we can win!

Best,

Scott

Yes, Betty. I am a fan of Glenn Beck's although I don't get a chance to watch much. I DVR the shows and pretty much rely on twitter to let me know if there is one I should see.

It looks like we are going to have a casino outside of Toledo. We do have the Fallen Timbers battlefield but it's about 10 miles away. The proposed casino is in an already highly commercialized area.

Thanks for the welcome.

Hello, Betty. Thank you for your kind words. Believe it or not, I have never been to Gettysburg but dream of going there for the 150th Anniversary in 2013. Now that will be an emotional experience. Those photos are from the Civil War section in Evansville, Indiana. Those makers were place by the GAR in the early 1900's. There is also a marker placed by the UDC for the Confederates who died in Indiana while prisoners of war. To me it is all very touching. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we can keep Gettsburg sacred and free of "trash". God Bless and have a wonderful holiday season. Sandra

Betty: Don't worry about Baseball Mom. She is nothing but a misinformed individual who only cares about profits and crime. She is not a student of history, nor will she ever be. The Evening Sun does feature some happier stories. Don't be afraid to go online. Baseball Mom will wake up some day and realize that her position is wrong.

Thanks you for your encouragement Betty. I will keep praying that we will win this "war". I am an immigrant from Engalnd, and although I have lived here for 20 years, I still remember many problems that "evolved in my country of birth, just like this issue. I believe that America is a Great country, and Gettysburg a great town. We should not fall into the trap of concentrating on money, instead of doing what is morally right. If this batlle is won, it will most certainly "set an example" for the entire country. I wish we could get some exposure on a national news network!

Betty: I don't recognize this country anymore either. Building a casino in Gettysburg is an example of the of a loss of historical values in our nation. It's so easy to convince people about our historical landmark, but there always the ignorant to contend with. Yes, there is hope our voices will prevail, and the proposal will sink like the Titanic.

Betty, thank you for the kind words. We love our visits to Gettysburg and it would truly pain us knowing that in reality hallowed ground was being exploited. There is absolutely no reason to choose Gettysburg other than to capitalize on numbers.

Thank you, Betty for your kind comment on my post. Sometimes it's hard for folks to see the signifigance to others of something that's always been in their back yard and get really defensive when they can't understand that. Hopefully, when the chips are down, (pun semi intended) the local pro casino people will see how important their region is to the rest of the country not just their county.

THANK YOU. I HAD TO KEEP IT SHORT OR I REALLY WOULD HAVE GONE OFF ON SOMEONE. BESIDE MY ANCESTOR, GENERAL PICKETT, THERE WAS ALSO A UNIT RAISED IN OXFORD,MISSISSIPPI WHICH IS VERY CLOSE TO TUPELO. THEY WERE CALLED THE UNIVERSITY GREYS AND BY THE THIRD DAY THE UNIT HAD CEASED TO EXIST-EVERY SINGLE MAN SERIOUSLY WOUNDED OR DEAD.
