Honoring Muriel Rice, Great Supporter of NCG

In 2005 Muriel Rice was invited to the Gettysburg Hotel for the announcement by casino investors of their plans to build a casino 1 mile from hallowed ground. Muriel decided then that she would fight the casino, and she did for the next years. She was our first vice president and a great friend to every one of us. Here is the text of a front page…See More

Hi Susan,  I spoke to Tom Grey today about the proposed casino here in SC near Hilton Head.  He has agreed to help me establish an opposition and provide guidence and direction.  I am just heartbroken that this is being considered.  It only needs the appoval of the Governor, Nikki Haley, to go forward.  I would love to call you but cannot find your phone number.  Would you go to my facebook page and send me a private message with your number?  Our number is listed down here in Bluffton.  Linda Beall Perkins.

Our ward council candidate out-polled the two other contenders. His message was a clear "no casino in our ward", and now the second place pro-casino candidate is trying to back away from his previous stance. Also, the only mayoral candidate to oppose a casino in Holyoke narrowly (by 1 vote) outpaced the incumbent pro-casino Mayor!  A lot can happen in the weeks until 8 November, so there is a lot of work ahead.

Did Lashinger's group ever put out a white paper in support of Mason-Dixon? You can write me off-line @ mgr0920@comcast.net. Thanks, Martha

Thank you, Susan, for the reference to those articles.  I will see what we can use to fight Lashinger and his local people here. There had been two respectable local men supporting the casino who left the organization in last month, leaving two others. Their departure has not dimmed the enthusiasm of our incumbent mayor, who faces a primary next Tuesday against 3 contenders. One of these three is a 22 year-old prodigy, just graduated from Brown, who is the only one against the casino. Guess who I am supporting?

Interesting times,

Martha

Susan

Just got the news and wanted to thank you and all the others for the persistent fortitude that you all put forth on this endeavor!

So interesting that we are in the midst of the 150th anniversary of that heart rendering conflict, and now another battle has been bravely fought and by the grace of GOD won!

Thank you and all the wonderful dedicated people that hung in there on some of the darkest days, and now as the smoke is clearing we can yet again see another New Beginning.

May GOD BLESS you all.

Hi Sue

Hope all is well.

Just wondering, have not heard too much down here in NJ, has Harrisburg proposed a time when this nightmare will be over. We haven't had any news down here about a date as of yet.
