Opposition to a proposed casino 1/2 mile from the Gettysburg NMP
In 2005 Muriel Rice was invited to the Gettysburg Hotel for the announcement by casino investors of their plans to build a casino 1 mile from hallowed ground. Muriel sat at a table with another local activist, Mark Berg. Mark began speaking critically about the proposal and was escorted from the meeting. Muriel decided then that she would fight the casino, and she did for the next years. She was our first vice president and a great friend to every one of us. Here is the text of a front page…

David LeVan’s Casino lawsuits were settled September 2012.
David LeVan spent plenty of time dealing with four lawsuits related to his most recent failed bid to place a casino near the hallowed ground of Gettysburg. All four lawsuits have now been settled.
From 2005 to 2011, Mr. LeVan was a minor investor but the public face of two companies offering casino proposals. Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa was rejected in…

For any of you who have either been out of the country or otherwise separated from media and friends, be informed that the Mason-Dixon appeal regarding the PGCB's 2011 decision was rejected by the Supreme Court. A Nemacolin Resort spokesman indicated they are "shovel ready" and plan to open in 2014.

On 4/20/12 the PA State Supreme Court upheld the PA Gaming Control Board selection of Nemacolin for a resort casino license, thus rejecting the lawsuit by Gettysburg Casino investors Mason-Dixon, who wanted to place a resort casino at the Eisenhower Inn and Conference Center located just 1/2 mile from the boundary of the Gettysburg National Military Park.
David LeVan has been attempting to bring a casino to Gettysburg since 2005. None of his several proposals have…

Internet Gambling has been illegal in every state, so when states have wanted gambling revenue they have turned to licensing brick and mortar casinos...mostly big slots barns like the ones here in PA. However, just on the horizon are signs that these casinos may be a bad bet, and be slowly going the way of other businesses that are dying due to web competitors.
Delaware has become the first state with internet gambling within its borders. The implications for PA, and other…

We won two major wars against those who want to have a casino close to the Gettysburg National Military Park. But we need continual vigilance to maintain the character of Gettysburg as a family friendly historic treasure.
Right now there is a danger that another one or two casino licenses (for the large 5000 slot casinos labelled Category II) would be auctioned off to the highest bidder anywhere in the…

House Bill 65 Leaves Gettysburg Vulnerable to Casino; also betrays horse industry
Note: Category 1=racetrack + casino; Category 2= stand-alone 5000 slot casino; Category 3= Resort casino
Gettysburg is vulnerable to another casino attempt because a current bill would release two unused casino licenses to the highest bidder who will provide the greatest total incremental revenue to the state and best serve the undefined “interests of citizens”. Two…

This is a summary of a Feb 8, 2012 hearing by the PA House Gaming Oversight Committee where testimony was taken from both supporters and those who oppose HB 2082 aka the ”Buffer Bill”. This proposed legislation seeks to establish a “Zone of Respect” i.e., a 10-mile buffer around the Gettysburg National Military Park and the Flight 93 Memorial at Shanksville, PA. within the boundaries of which a casino would be prohibited from locating.
First to testify was…

I was saddened to see the words “irrational”, “bothersome,” and “unprofessional” used to describe proposed state legislation requiring casinos to be located a minimum of 10 miles away from two historic shrines. Each site commemorates one of the most significant and heartrending events in our American experience, both occurring in PA: the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg, and the heroic acts of Flight 93 passengers and crew which most likely saved countless American lives and our seat of government…

Buffer Bill HB 2082 Coming Up for Hearing this Wed
We’ve been stopping casino proposals next to hallowed ground for the last 6 years. We’ve won two major battles through your support and a huge local, state and national effort. These battles continue to divide our community, yet casino investor David Le Van has already told the Adams County Court that he wants to be free to pursue another casino in Adams County. We’d like to stop this new plot before it gets started. Let’s…

Adams County Courts Biased?
The claim by David LeVan's attorney John White, that the lawsuits between Messrs LeVan and Joseph Lashinger concerning Mason Dixon should be heard in an Adams county court because, "Adams County has a much stronger interest in the resolution of the parties' dispute than Philadelphia County," is offensive. Justice is supposed to be blind. Adams County's courts and Judge Michael George should have no interest in the resolution of the dispute. Judge Michael is not supposed to be a tool of…

We want permanent protection from
casinos around the Gettysburg National Military Park, and now we have an
opportunity to get it. Rep. Paul Clymer, (R-Bucks) has introduced an amendment
to HB2005 that will create a 10-mile buffer zone for new casino construction around
two of the Commonwealth’s most sacred symbols of our nation’s fight for freedom
– Gettysburg National Military Park and the Flight 93 National Memorial in
Shanksville,…
