Opposition to a proposed casino 1/2 mile from the Gettysburg NMP
In 2005 Muriel Rice was invited to the Gettysburg Hotel for the announcement by casino investors of their plans to build a casino 1 mile from hallowed ground. Muriel sat at a table with another local activist, Mark Berg. Mark began speaking critically about the proposal and was escorted from the meeting. On 4/20/12 the PA State Supreme Court upheld the PA Gaming Control Board selection of Nemacolin for a resort casino license, thus rejecting the lawsuit by Gettysburg Casino investors Mason-Dixon, who wanted to place a resort casino at the Eisenhower Inn and Conference Center located just 1/2 mile from the boundary of the Gettysburg National Military Park.
David LeVan has been attempting to bring a casino to Gettysburg since 2005. None of his several proposals have…

For any of you who have either been out of the country or otherwise separated from media and friends, be informed that the Mason-Dixon appeal regarding the PGCB's 2011 decision was rejected by the Supreme Court. A Nemacolin Resort spokesman indicated they are "shovel ready" and plan to open in 2014.

This is a summary of a Feb 8, 2012 hearing by the PA House Gaming Oversight Committee where testimony was taken from both supporters and those who oppose HB 2082 aka the ”Buffer Bill”. This proposed legislation seeks to establish a “Zone of Respect” i.e., a 10-mile buffer around the Gettysburg National Military Park and the Flight 93 Memorial at Shanksville, PA. within the boundaries of which a casino would be prohibited from locating.
First to testify was…

Gaming Board States
Reasons for Rejecting Appeal
The words experts and the Gaming Board are using to describe the appeal filed 6/7 by the would-be Mason-Dixon
Resort and Casino are downright unfriendly.
The Gaming Control Board could barely contain its irritation at this useless suit. On Wed they met for an hour
and in an icy atmosphere,…

Peace-Time Vigilance 5/5/2011
The Evening Sun wrote an eloquent editorial calling for us all to put the casino issue behind us. During war time there can be no peace. Now we have won the battle, our second against the same bad idea, and we can take some steps to peace.
The first casino battle ran from April 2005 to December 2006. We quickly formed No Casino Gettysburg, an all-volunteer…
